Decluttering and Scaling Down

Decluttering and Scaling Down

After twenty years in our house, the stuff has started to outgrow the space, and maybe, so have I.

Every drawer holds a memory. Every shelf, a season of life. And while I’ve treasured all of it, I’ve started to realize: holding on to everything is holding me back.

So, I’m decluttering. Not in a Pinterest-perfect way. More like one basket at a time, one corner of the room, one emotional tug-of-war with a birthday card from 2007.

I started with the living room. Made three piles: keep, donate, discard. Asked myself honest questions. Do I love this? Do I use it? Would someone else love it more?

Some things were hard to let go of. But piece by piece, it got easier. Lighter. Like my house, and my mind could finally breathe.

I’m not erasing memories. I’m making space for what comes next.

This new chapter is about simplicity, clarity, and intention. About creating a home that feels peaceful again. Not perfect. Just honest.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by your own clutter, start small. Be kind to yourself. The past will always be part of the story. But we get to decide how the next part is written.

Here’s to fresh starts, clear surfaces, and homes that reflect who we are now.
